The row began when podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made a controversial joke on ‘parental sex’ that went viral on Samay Raina’s “India’s Got Latent”, which many deemed vulgar and offensive.

Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia are facing multiple police complaints following the controversial remarks.

Comedian Samay Raina on Wednesday announced that he has deleted all videos of his show “India’s Got Latent” from his YouTube channel amid controversy over YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia’s “sex with parents” remark.

The row began when podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made a controversial joke on ‘parental sex’ that went viral on Samay Raina’s “India’s Got Latent”. In the viral video, the influencer was seen asking a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever.” This remark was seen as vulgar and offensive.

This shocking exchange left netizens furious, with many calling it insensitive, offensive, and downright unacceptable. Following criticism from high-profile celebrities, politicians and other prominent personalities, the video was removed from YouTube after the intervention of the I&B Ministry and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

In his first reaction to the controversy, Samay Raina said everything that has been happening has been “too much for me to handle” and all ‘India’s Got Latent’ videos were removed from his channel. Raina said his only objective was to make people laugh and said he would fully cooperate with all agencies in the investigation process.

“Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you,” he said on his X handle.

Despite all videos being removed from Raina’s YouTube channel, videos are still available on India’s Got Latent’s official Instagram page. Meanwhile, Raina’s Gujarat show has been cancelled amid the controversy that erupted over the latest episode of his show.

Troubles Far From Over For Raina, Allahbadia

A police complaint was filed against Allahbadia, Raina and several co-judges, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija. The FIR accuses them of promoting obscene and sexually explicit content on the show, invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Despite Allahbadia offering an apologysaying that comedy is not his forte, the controversy refused to die down as Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske highlighted the issue in the Parliament, calling for more OTT regulations to restrict vulgar and obscene content.

“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry,” said Allahbadia in a video statement after his remarks sparked a wave of criticism. “I personally had a lapse of judgment, wasn’t cool on my part. The podcast is watched by people of all ages, don’t want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly and family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect.”

The Mumbai Police have summoned Allahbadia and Raina as the row continues to escalate. Raina’s advocate had sought more time for the show host to appear but the permission was denied. Police have so far recorded statements of six individuals.

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell had earlier written a letter to YouTube and directed it to remove all the episodes of India Got Latent, containing obscene content, from the platform.

Mumbai Police have now summoned celebrities Siddhant Chaturvedi, Uorfi Javed, Tanmay Bhat, Rakhi Sawant And Deepak Kalal in the India’s Got Latent case. As per the Mumbai Police sources, the Khar police have recorded the statement of Ashish Chanchlani today.

Allahbadia and Raina have also been summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW), which said the remarks “have sparked widespread public outrage, violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect”.
