Russia will wreak havoc in Ukraine! Furious over drone attacks, Putin said – ‘Will have to pay a heavy price’

Russia Vladimir Putin Threatens Ukraine: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday (22 December 2024) threatened Ukraine with more “devastation” in response to a drone attack on the central Russian city of Kazan. Russia accused Ukraine of carrying out the “large-scale” drone attack, which targeted a luxury apartment block in Kazan. This apartment is about one thousand kilometers (620 miles) away from the border.

Viral video on Russia’s social media networks showed the drone hitting a high-rise glass building and producing a fireball, although no casualties were reported in the attack. Putin spoke at a government meeting on Sunday “Whoever, and however much they try to destroy, will face many times more destruction themselves and will regret what they are trying to do to our country,” he said.

Kazan attack and Ukraine’s silence

Putin was making this statement through a video link with the local leader of Tatarstan at a road-opening ceremony. This attack on Kazan is the latest part of a series of increasing air strikes in the conflict that has been going on for almost three years. Ukraine has not yet commented on this attack.

Putin had previously threatened to target the center of Kiev with hypersonic ballistic missiles in response to Ukrainian attacks. And the Defense Ministry has portrayed Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities in recent weeks as retaliation for Kiev targeting Russian air bases and weapons factories with Western-supplied missiles.

Latest developments on Russia’s battlefield

Amidst this latest threat, Russia has claimed its latest success in the battlefield of eastern Ukraine. The Defense Ministry said on Telegram that its forces had “liberated” the village of Lozova and the village of Krasnoye (known as Sontsivka in Ukraine) in the north-eastern part of the Kharkiv region.

The village is located near the resource center of Kurikhovo, which Russia has virtually encircled and could become a key target in Moscow’s effort to completely annex the Donetsk region. Russia has accelerated its advance into eastern Ukraine over the past few months in a bid to capture as much territory as possible before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.

Ukraine conflict and Russia’s claim

Russia’s military claims to have captured more than 190 Ukrainian settlements this year, while Kiev’s forces are struggling due to lack of manpower and ammunition on the battlefield.
