The three-month search for a lost dog by a Gurgaon couple came to a happy end on February 15 in Agra. A 10-year-old Indian breed dog named Greyhound was found in the dense forest close to the Taj Mahal about three months after she went missing. Greyhound’s pet parents, Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra, offered a prize of Rs 50,000 in addition to drone surveillance and CCTV cameras in the hunt.

In November 2024, Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra, along with their two dogs, Woof and Greyhound, checked into a hotel in Agra, according to the Times of India. They intended to spend the long weekend of Diwali in Agra.

The hotel called the couple on November 3 while they were touring the adjacent Fatehpur Sikri site to inform them that their Greyhound had lost her leash and disappeared. Two days later, Greyhound was spotted again on a surveillance camera close to the Taj Mahal metro station.

Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra did everything they could to find their missing Indie. In the vicinity where she disappeared, they put up banners and posters. The pair asked residents if they had seen the dog by knocking on doors. Sadly, their labours were in vain.

Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra spent two weeks in Agra, according to the Times of India. They kept going back to Agra even after they had moved back to Gurgaon. In their desperate quest to find the missing puppy, their car turned into a second home.

Eventually, they offered a prize of Rs 30,000, which was subsequently increased to Rs 50,000. Posters for rewards were affixed to walls, cars, stores, and subway stations. A movement to ensure Greyhound’s safe return also started on social media.

Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra hoped to see their dog in the hundreds of hours of hazy CCTV footage they watched. Drones were used to search through the alleys. Nothing helped, even when police dogs were sent into action. The advice that was given to them did not come to pass.

According to an animal rescue group managed by Samridhi Sirohi, Greyhounds was spotted in the dense forests where she disappeared. But locals often threw stones at her because they believed she was a wolf. After which she ran into the woods, scared and disoriented.

However, there was a fortunate break on February 14. A tour guide named Prashant Jain called the Gurgaon couple after spotting the Greyhound. Once more, the couple drove to Agra. Their journey was worthwhile this time. Kasturi Patra called her dog’s name while standing in the dark that night and her dog responded to her voice.

Greyhound’s happy reunion with her parents is captured in a touching video that has gone viral on the internet. Despite being thin and afraid, she was reunited.

The couple was ecstatic for their part. The internet has responded favourably to Greyhound’s story. Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra have received dozens of commendations for their efforts on behalf of their dog.
