Internships are a vital stepping stone for aspiring professionals, offering real-world experience and the opportunity to hone skills. However, in some cases, full-time employees mistreat interns instead of fostering a learning environment. From assigning menial tasks to blocking interns from taking assignments, this behaviour hinders their ability to learn and showcase their potential. In a similar incident, a lawyer has ignited a debate online after sharing that he never assigns any work to his intern despite the newbie asking for tasks almost daily. He recently posted on social media explaining his reasons, which has sparked discussion on how full-time employees treat interns.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the lawyer wrote, “This intern, despite knowing very well that I am not going to give him any work, comes to ask me every single day if I have any work for him. Ek din, Friday late evening ko kaam de dunga, do din ka tab hi sudhrega yeh h****kh**.”

Soon, the lawyer’s post gained traction online, sparking a debate among social media users. Among others, a user asked him the genuine reason for not assigning any work. On this, the lawyer listed five reasons why he doesn’t delegate his work.
The first was, “Interns don’t get paid much.” Then, he stated that people his age should enjoy rather than work. Next, he said that he doesn’t want to take on the extra burden of reviewing an intern’s work. The fourth reason was that the lawyer thinks that the intern asks for work just for fun. The final point the X user wrote was that he can’t push for the intern’s recruitment, so there is no point in making him work.
1. Kitna Hi Paisa Milta Hai Inko2. Maza Karne Ki Umar Hai3. Review karne se acha hai khud karlu.kabhi extraordinary workload ho toh may be. 4. Yeh wala jaanta hai main kaam nahi dunga isliye bkchdi krne aata hai.5. Recruitment rarely hota hai and I cant push toh kya fayda – Poor man’s dev anand obe (@Barkusmaximus) January 28, 2025
Internet users chimed into the comments section, sharing their experience as an intern, while others urged the lawyer to assign some work to the intern.
“Just give him work, it’s not that deep. He is an intern; he knows he has to show something to get converted. Even if not that, he may just be interested to learn the work. Very weird reaction to someone who just wants to work?” read a comment.
Adding a tweak of humour, a user said, “By listening to your advice, I didn’t ask my manager for any work. Now he comes to me and says, ‘Tum to kuch karte he nahi, bas baithe rehete ho.’ Lesson learned even if the manager does not give you any work, just go and show him your face twice a day,” wrote another.
“Why did I never get such a good internship, here I used to make my friends wash glasses for free,” expressed an individual.
A user exclaimed, “Being a fresher/intern he might be facing anxiety, yet he wants to have some work and comes to the office daily. The problem is, being a senior hum toh bol denge that he never asked for the work and agar koi senior usko puchega to bill uspe fatega.”
“You are truly lucky to find such an intern who is eager to learn. But I can empathise with you, abused turning abuser is very common. It’s not your fault, but maybe someday you will be able to break the cycle. Best wishes,” an individual added.
An account remarked, “Shouldn’t he be rewarded for willingness to do something? In this case, the reward is mere work he is seeking. Then we complain that newer gen kids don’t work much or aren’t dedicated enough,” a user said.
“In an internship, people come to work. I genuinely would hate sitting half of my day in my internship doing nothing,” wrote another.
