An old video of a group of young girls from Meghalaya singing the popular song ‘Vande Mataram’ resurfaced on social media on Independence Day, filling netizens with a sense of national pride.
The performance led by two lead singers is being hailed as a shining example of Meghalaya’s rich and vibrant music culture.
Supported by Khmih Creative Society, a group dedicated to nurturing local talent and preserving the region’s artistic traditions, the musical performance has drawn widespread praise for its emotional depth and excellence.
The video of the performance is widely being shared on social media platform X. The young girls’ voices, blending passion and youthful energy, have resonated far beyond the state’s borders.
Reposting the video on X, a user @SanskarBarot wrote, “Beautiful rendition of Vande Maatram by our Sisters in Meghalaya!(sic)”
According to a report by the Free Press Journalthe young talents from West Khasi Hills District in Meghalaya originally delivered their soulful performance during the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier match between India and Bangladesh at the Shillong JN Stadium (Polo Ground) in April this year.
The girls were dressed in traditional brown attire, showcasing their love towards their cultural heritage.
Soon after their performance in April, the video quickly went viral, earning praise from Nagaland’s Tourism and Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along. The minister had shared the clip on X and wrote “Waaoow”, summing up the vibe of the performance in a single word.
