The 19-year-old comedian, Janvi Modi, tied the knot with her 26-year-old lover, Tarun Sangla, amid her alleged kidnapping.

Janvi Modi, a comedian from Rajasthan, was allegedly abducted by two masked men while she was with her mother at Shri Dungargarh Market in Bikaner. Following the incident, her family filed a complaint, which the police converted into an FIR and began their search for her. However, in a twist, the authorities came across a video of Modi getting married at an Arya Samaj Temple the very next day.
The FIR states that around 7 pm on Tuesday, while Modi and her mother were at the market, two masked men forcibly grabbed her and pushed her into a car parked nearby before driving off. It also names Tarun Sangla, the man she married, as her abductor.
The viral video captures the couple’s wedding ceremony. It opens to show Sangla applying vermilion to Modi’s forehead. As the video goes on, it shows the couple exchanging garlands, and later posing for pictures as husband and wife.
Police said that efforts to contact Modi are ongoing and they have reached out to their friends for statements. “We have contacted friends of both the man and the woman. They have said that they will appear before the police to give their statements,” TOI quoted a senior police official as saying.
The official further explained, “We visited the location from where the family claimed that he was abducted. It was only after speaking to her family that we realised the case was related to an inter-caste relationship.”
As per the TOI report, Modi’s relationship with her family was strained due to their disapproval of her relationship with Sangla. She had been living with her maternal relatives in Bikaner City before being forced to return to Shri Dungargarh.
The couple reportedly got married in Jodhpur and have since switched off their phones.
