Pune Metro Line 3, which is intended to link Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar Metro Line-3, has encountered yet another obstacle. The 23 kilometer line, which has 23 stations, is only anticipated to be operational for commuters in 2026.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Company Limited (PMRDA) was asked by a consortium made up of Siemens Project Ventures and Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) to extend the completion date of the Pune Metro line-3 (Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi) project until March 2026, as per Hindustan Times.
The deadline for the project was moved to September 2025 in February. The problems of the local commuters are now likely to be exacerbated by yet another extension. Even though work has advanced by almost 85 per cent, important sections are still unfinished, which prevents additional operational readiness measures.
“Tata-Siemens has submitted a proposal and requested to extend the deadline up to March 2026. The decision regarding the same will be taken in the executive meeting. Before that, we will review the work and make a decision accordingly,” Dr Yogesh Mhase, PMRDA commissioner, told Hindustan Times while commenting on the development.

Since it directly affects the start of the metro coaches’ testing runs, officials have acknowledged that this element is crucial, as per reports.

The Pune Metro Line-3 is a 23 km elevated metro rail project that connects Shivajinagar with Hinjewadi, the IT hub. Its completion date was March 2025.
Last year, there were warnings of fines for additional delays brought on by land acquisition, licenses and tenders. As a result, the contractor accelerated the work.
Escalators and infrastructure at Baner, Sakalnagar, Civil Court and eleven other stations are among the last ongoing projects that are almost finished. In November 2021, the project’s development got underway, and in April 2022, the first metro pillar was built.
An extension until the end of 2025 has been formally requested by the project’s concessionaire in order to finish the remaining civil infrastructure, reports add. With the initial operational objective set for 2024 and subsequently changed to September 2025, this revised schedule comes after previous missed deadlines.
