Prisoners at the Central Jail in Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur were granted a unique opportunity to participate in a symbolic Kumbh Mela. The jail administration arranged for Gangajal to be brought from the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, allowing the prisoners to take a holy dip in a specially constructed kund. Vedic chants filled the air as the prisoners participated in this sacred ritual. The initiative was undertaken with the full cooperation of the Chhattisgarh government.

The prisoners embraced this opportunity with utmost devotion and reverence. The atmosphere within the jail walls was transformed into one of spirituality, with Vedic chants and religious rituals creating an aura of sanctity.

This unique event was organised on the instructions of the Chhattisgarh Home Minister. Recognising that the prisoners could not physically travel to Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela, the government ensured that they could still partake in this significant event.

Ganga water was brought to jails across the state, enabling prisoners to symbolically wash away their sins and embrace spiritual renewal.

The Prayagraj Mahakumbh held in Uttar Pradesh holds immense religious significance. Occurring every 12 years, it is believed that after 12 such cycles, a period of 144 years, a special ‘Amrit yoga‘ is formed, making it an exceptionally auspicious occasion.

Taking a dip in the Triveni Sangam during this period, from Makar Sankranti to Mahashivratri, is considered highly sacred. The jail administration, mindful of this tradition, provided the prisoners with this unique opportunity.

The prisoners expressed their gratitude for this initiative, acknowledging the government’s efforts in providing them with this rare and holy experience. The event, organised across all jails in Chhattisgarh, offered the prisoners a chance for spiritual solace and self-reflection.
