Potato Rate: Potato prices have increased in Odisha in the last two days as West Bengal has banned the supply of kitchen essentials in the state. Traders have given this information. Now hundreds of trucks laden with potatoes are parked near the Odisha-Bengal border as vehicles have not been allowed to cross the inter-state border since Wednesday night. Many of these trucks have returned to their original locations because the potatoes may be perishable.

Potato prices suddenly increased in Odisha

Traders said that earlier potato was being sold at Rs 30 to Rs 33 per kg in the markets of Odisha, now it has become Rs 40 per kg in the retail markets. He said that if the supply is not restored, potato prices may increase further.

Appeal to hold talks with Odisha’s neighboring state West Bengal

Sudhakar Panda, secretary of All Odisha Traders Association, has appealed to the Odisha government to intervene and negotiate with neighboring West Bengal to allow the entry of potato trucks into the state. When asked about this, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krishnachandra Patra said that there has been a problem in the supply of potatoes from West Bengal.

Efforts to bring potatoes from Punjab or Uttar Pradesh

He said, ‘We will bring potatoes from Punjab or Uttar Pradesh and ensure that consumers do not face any problem.’ Odisha requires about 4500 tonnes of potatoes every day. The state is largely dependent on West Bengal for this. Due to concerns regarding the price of potatoes, people in the state are facing a lot of problems and citizens are facing problems in getting potatoes even after paying increased prices.
