PM modi-mohammed yunus bimstec: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi And the possibility of meeting the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, is expected to meet at the BIMSTEC summit. The conference is scheduled to be held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand from April 2 to 4, 2025. However, there is no official confirmation about this meeting yet. However, Bangladesh officials believe that both the leaders of the two countries can use this platform for bilateral talks.
What is BIMSTEC Summit?
BIMSTEC is a regional organization, which was established in the year 1997. Earlier it was called BIST-EC. The organization included Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand as the main members in this organization. Later, it was changed to BIMSTEC when it became a member of Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal.
This organization works to increase cooperation between South Asian and South-East Asian countries. After the SAARC organization became inactive, India started giving more importance to this organization, making it a major platform of regional cooperation.
This time Bangladesh will chair BIMSTEC
Bangladesh will become the next president of BIMSTEC during this summit. According to the organization’s general secretary Indramani Pandey, this role will give Bangladesh an opportunity to carry forward economic and technical cooperation with member countries. This will also give the country a chance to showcase its commitment globally.
Tension between India and Bangladesh for several months
The relations between India and Bangladesh have been very stressful in recent months. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from power in the coup on August 5, 2024. Since then, he has taken refuge in India. Since this incident, there has been a decline in the relationship between the two countries. Since the arrival of the interim government in Bangladesh, many incidents of violence and attacks on minorities have also come to light. India has expressed concern over attacks and harassment on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
Chance to improve relations between the two countries
In such a situation, the BIMSTEC summit is considered to be an opportunity to improve relations between the two countries. If PM Modi and Mohammad Yunus meet during this time, it can help reduce diplomatic differences and promote regional stability.
