‘Pire’ became the only film to premiere in 3 cities of America

After winning the Best Film Awards in many countries around the world, the Indian film ‘Payer’ is now reaching America once again. Directed by the National Award winner film maker Vinod Kapri, the film will premiere in Washington DC, Boston and Chicago in the US in the month of September.

America’s Washington DC South Asian Film Festival will end on September 7 with the premiere of the film ‘Payer’. After this, ‘Payer’ has also been selected on September 14 as the Eighth India International Film Festival of Boston’s ending film. After Washington and Boston, the film’s screening will be held on 21 September at America’s popular 16th Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

Big record for ‘Payer’
‘Payer’ is the first Indian film, which is being shown at the film festival of three big cities of America within a month. In the month of July, ‘Payer’ won the Grand Jury Best Feature Film Award ‘German Star of India Award’ at the 2025 Indian Film Festival held in Stuttgart, Germany. Not only this, the film also won four Best Film Awards in Spain and Britain. In just one month, Payer received five International Awards. These include three Best Film Audience Awards.

What is the story of ‘Payer’?
The film Payer focuses on an old couple, Padam and Tulsi, which is constantly being deserted due to migration towards the cities of the remote Himalayan village families. With this, this couple is in a dilemma as to who will perform their last rites. Their world changes dramatically when he gets a letter from his separated son after 30 years, which gives him a new hope and desire to move forward.

‘Payer’ Kasast and Crew
‘Pire’ includes non-professional artists of the Himalayas. Among them are 80 -year -old Padam Singh and 70 -year -old Heera Devi. The film includes an international creative team, including the Academy Award Musician Michael Danna, who has composed music with Amrita Waz. German Editor Petricia Romell has worked on editing with Subhajit Sinha, while lyricist Gulzar wrote the songs of the film. Kapri produced this feature with Sakshi Joshi.

Premier was held in November 2024
The world premiere of the film ‘Pire’ took place in the 28th edition of Tallin Black Nights International Film Festival in November 2024. The film won the Best Film Audience Choice Award. It was the only Indian film in the official competition category at the Black Nights Festival. This was followed by the Indian premiere as a film at the 16th Bangalore International Film Festival, where it received the Jury Special Mention Award in the Asian Cinema Competition.

The film’s Belgian Premier was at the 12th Move Film Festival and the North American Premier at the 25th New York Indian Film Festival, where both non-Pesseers were nominated for the best actor and best actress.
