Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has voiced his concerns over the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI). Nowadays, social media platforms are flooded with AI-generated content. Not only digital creators but also normal users are using this technology to write captions and edit images, videos as well as voices. The results are so realistic that people may find it difficult to differentiate between human-made and AI-created content. Sharma also pointed out the same in one of his recent posts on X.
The tech entrepreneur referred to an article by The Guardian shedding light on how “AI-generated slop is killing the internet.” The report claimed that more than 54 percent of long English-language posts shared on LinkedIn are created by AI tools.
The data was shared by the AI detection startup Originality AI, as reported by WIRED. To evaluate the dominance of this technology, the company scanned a set of 8,795 public LinkedIn posts with over 100 words that surfaced on the platform between January 2018 and 2024.
Initially, it was found that the effect of AI writing tools was negligible but the number of such texts had increased since the beginning of 2023. “The uptick happened when ChatGPT came out,” Originality AI CEO Jon Gillham told WIRED.
Going by the data, an X user doubted, “Social media will have entirely AI-created content in the very near future.” Sharma reshared the post and wished that people had the option to filter “social media posts by AI and human”. “Sadly, soon, you won’t know if you are talking to a human or a bot,” he added.
I wish we could filter posts by AI bots or humans. Sadly, soon, you won’t know if you are talking to a human or a bot.. https://t.co/EKl5x1Y54i— Vijay Shekhar Sharma (@vijayshekhar) January 12, 2025
The Paytm chief also dropped a screenshot of how Grok, an AI chatbot, was giving him suggestions in Hindi for the X post. “Bots only bots. Meet or write,” he quipped. His post went viral in no time, with users raising concerns over the dominance of AI tools in the social media world.
One of them asked, “Are we entering an age of big companies with one founder and everything else controlled by AI?” Another assumed, “There may be tools for this in the future. You look at the post, you look at a bunch of signals (post, grammar, response speed, creation date, image analysis) then you tag each post and reply ‘possible bot’.”
AI undoubtedly assists in creating appealing content. People even use it to identify developing trends. The technology can also help companies understand their customers’ preferences, analysing their behaviour and interactions.
