Mention in Bhavishya Purana
In Brahma Parva of Bhavishya Purana, Shri Krishna has explained the importance of worshiping Sun God to his son Samb. Lord Shri Krishna had told Samba that Suryadev is the only visible god, that is, the Sun is visible to us. All the wishes of those who worship Surya with devotion are fulfilled by Sun God.

Surya in Vedas and Upanishads
Horoscope analyst Dr. Anish Vyas tells that according to Atharvaveda and Suryopanishad, Sun is Parabrahma. It is told in the scriptures that in the month of Paush, Lord Bhaskar provides relief from cold by basking with eleven thousand rays. Their color is red like blood. In the scriptures, wealth, religion, fame, Shri, knowledge and renunciation are called Bhaga and because of all these, he is considered as God. This is the reason why the Sun named Bhag of the month of Pausha is considered to be the form of the Supreme Brahma. The importance of offering Arghya to the Sun and fasting for him in the month of Pausha is mentioned in the religious scriptures.

What to do
According to Aditya Purana, on every Sunday of the month of Paush, one should pour pure water, red sandalwood and red colored flowers in a copper vessel and offer Arghya to the Sun and chant Vishnu Namah mantra. Along with this, one should fast throughout the day and should not use salt in food. If possible, eat only fruits. There is a religious belief that by fasting on Sunday and offering sesame-rice khichdi to the Sun, a person becomes radiant. According to the Puranas, taking a holy bath in the month of Pausha brings virtue. All the wishes of life are fulfilled.
