Sabir Shakir, a Pakistani journalist, was slammed online after he posted an old Gaza video and claimed it was from ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out by the Indian army forces to avenge the innocent lives lost in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on March 22. As the Indian army launched missiles on “terrorist infrastructure” sites based in Pakistan and the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), multiple videos have been doing the rounds among the anxious online community, including fake ones from the neighbouring land.
Amid fears of escalation and a full-blown war, this Pakistani journalist posted a video where missiles can be seen destroying a building completely. Shakir, a journalist and anchor for Pakistan-based ARY, claimed the video is of Indian armed forces attacking Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province. But the man’s accusation didn’t last long, as he was countered immediately by users on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A quick Google image reverse search of Shakir’s post opened the lid on his intentions. It was found that the video is not from Operation Sindoor and is originally from attacks on Gaza carried out by Israel. The video first surfaced on the internet when KABUL NEWS reported the Gaza bombings in 2023.
“Israel intensified its bombing of Gaza last night. According to Palestinian media reports, 400 people, including women and children, lost their lives in last night’s bombings, and hundreds more are still trapped under collapsed buildings,” the original post’s caption read.

Not long after Shakir’s post did the rounds, users pointed out its false nature and left mixed comments. While some trolls the journalist, others suggested that he verify information and clips before posting them. “This is fake,” an individual pointed out, before another commented, “Gaza ki video hai ye bhai (this is a video from Gaza).”
A statement issued by PIB at 1:44 AM on May confirmed Indian armed forces have launched Operation Sindoor and carried out precise strikes on terrorist camps based in Pakistan and POK territory. “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature,” the statement read. “No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution.”
“These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable.”
