
Ex CM Jail Sentences: An anti-terrorism court of Pakistan on Tuesday (December 31, 2024) sentenced former Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan Khalid Khurshid Khan to 34 years in prison. He was accused of threatening the security agencies of the area. Cases related to sedition and terrorism were registered against Khurshid following a protest in July 2024. During this time he was accused of giving a threatening speech.
According to news agency PTI, Anti-Terrorism Court No. 1 of Gilgit-Baltistan said in its judgment that according to the prosecution, Khalid Khurshid had attacked the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, police personnel and intelligence officers during a protest in Gilgit on July 26, 2024. The agencies were threatened. The former Chief Minister reportedly claimed that if he comes to power again, he will not spare anyone. It was also alleged in the case that the former CM instigated violence against sensitive institutions.
Khalid Khurshid Khan is absconding
After the case was registered against Khalid, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed and the JIT found him guilty in the investigation. At present Khalid Khurshid is absconding. The court said in its decision that during the proceedings of the case, the prosecution was able to prove the allegations and that is why he was sentenced to 34 years in jail and fine under different sections.
Former CM fined 6 lakh Pakistani rupees
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh on the former chief minister and ordered the police to arrest him as well as enforce his sentence. Along with this, the court also ordered the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to block his computerized National ID card, after which his legal situation became more complicated.

He held the post of Chief Minister from 2020 to July 2023. After this, he was disqualified in the fake degree case and had to lose the post of Chief Minister.
