A Chennai-based sports commentator booked a window seat on his IndiGo flight only to realise it was nowhere to be seen. In a post on X, Pradeep Muthu shared his experience, posting a photo of himself seated beside a solid wall panel instead of the expected window.
His caption read, “Dei @IndiGo6E I paid for a window seat da.. where is the window #TravelParithabangal.”
The tweet quickly gained traction, amassing over 6.88 lakh views and hundreds of comments. Many users shared similar experiences, revealing that several aircraft have window seats without windows due to structural design. Some jokingly suggested that IndiGo should rename such seats as “wall seats” to avoid misleading passengers. Others criticised the airline for not informing customers beforehand, arguing that transparency should be a priority.
One user commented, “IndiGo gave you the best view of all – your reflection.” Another joked, “At least they didn’t charge you extra for ‘exclusive privacy from outside distractions.’”
While some users found the situation amusing, others highlighted the need for better communication from airlines. Aviation experts explained that certain aircraft configurations, especially in economy class, include “missing window seats” due to the placement of structural reinforcements or emergency exits. However, they also pointed out that airlines should ideally mark such seats on their booking platforms to prevent confusion and dissatisfaction.
So far, IndiGo has not issued an official response to Muthu’s complaint. However, the incident has reignited discussions on the importance of airlines providing detailed seat maps to passengers. Some travellers even suggested that seat selection fees should be adjusted based on amenities, ensuring that those expecting a window actually get one.
