OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Tuesday responded to the Ghibli-style images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sharing his response on social media platform X, Altman reshared the official social media accounts of the Government of India, MyGov, featuring PM Modi’s images created in Ghibli style.
“Main character? No. He’s the whole storyline. Experience through New India in Studio Ghibli strokes,” the government X post read. The post featured pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The images that gathered everyone’s attention showed PM Modi shaking hands with American President Donald Trump to posing with Emmanuel Macron to playing with lion cubs, to visiting Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya.
Following this, Sam Altman reshared the X post by Mygov and posted an emoji of the India flag.
While several social media users like the images, several slammed the OpenAI CEO and accused him of trying to capture the attention of Indian consumers.
“Why does Sam Altman like India?” one user wrote. “He knows the market,” another reacted. A third posted, “The guy who created the style gets zero, and others make millions. What a world we are living in!”

The ChatGPT Ghibli image generation is part of the AI chatbot’s latest update tools which create images inspired by the distinct animation style of Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation powerhouse founded by Hayao Miyazaki.
