
The Karnataka government has increased the sale of diesel by 3%, giving a big blow to the public. It has become effective from April 1. According to the notification of the state government, Karnataka Sales Tax (KST) on diesel has been increased from 18.4% to 21.17%. After this, the price of diesel has increased by Rs 2.
Currently in Karnataka, the price of diesel is Rs 88.99 per liter, while petrol is Rs 102.99 per liter. Akhir Karnataka Petroleum Dealers Association said that the price of diesel has been increased by up to Rs 2.
An official statement said that the rate of sales tax on diesel in Karnataka was 24 percent before November 4, 2021 and the sale price per liter was Rs 92.03. On June 15 last year, the Government of Karnataka issued a notification to reduce the tax rate on diesel to 18.44 percent.
According to the statement, after the approval of & ldquo; competent authority, the rate of sales tax on diesel has been increased to 21.17 percent since April 1, 2025. As a result, there will be an increase of two rupees per liter, which will increase the sale price of Rs 91.02. & rdquo; However, even after this increase, the revised sale price in the state will be lower than in neighboring states.
The statement said that by March 31, 2025, the price of diesel in Bengaluru is Rs 89.02, while in Hosur (Tamil Nadu) it is Rs 94.42, Rs 95.66 in Kasargod (Kerala), Rs 97.35 in orphanpura (Andhra Pradesh), Rs 97.35 in Hyderabad (Telngana) and Rs 91.07 in Kagal (Maharashtra). Criticizing the move, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly R Ashok accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of imposing taxes on one by one.
