When an unexpected guest chose to make its presence known, a tranquil trek in Singapore’s Bukit Timah Nature Reserve became a heart-stopping experience for one tourist. Yeshi Dema was having fun on her walk when she paused to take pictures and videos, not realising that there was danger only a few meters away.

A cobra that was eight feet long slithered out of the brush next to the concrete trail and headed straight for her as she made a peace sign for the camera. As it approached her, Yeshi Dema, in a bizarre coincidence, opened her feet to pose for a photo.

In this manner, it slithered past her calmly. She was wearing sneakers and long jogging trousers, and she was blissfully unaware of the snake until another hiker saw it and yelled a warning.

“I was hiking Bukit Timah Nature Reserve with my friend. Upon descent, I asked to take photos and videos. I was posing when someone shouted, ‘Hey!’ and pointed to the ground,” Dema recalled, according to reports. Her first inclination was to jump away and run in the direction of her friend.

“I realized it was a snake. I was so scared that my whole body trembled. I cried and laughed at the same time,” she recollected, reports added. Reports state that the incident, which was captured on camera, occurred on March 15. It was uploaded to Instagram and quickly became viral.

The video shared on March 28 has collected over 4,000 views so far. The cobra’s near approach before slithering away left many observers amazed.

A user said, “Luckily, the girl was not aware, so the snake just passed by because did not feel disturbed. Try if the girl conscious then she must scream. Don’t know what’s about to happen.”

Another commented, “Snake photobomber!”

All About The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Tucked away a few kilometres from the bustling city of Singapore, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a verdant haven brimming with wildlife. The reserve is home to more than 840 species of blooming plants and a wide variety of fauna, such as reticulated pythons, cobras, and crab-eating macaques. It is also one of the last remaining areas of primary rainforest in the country.

The black spitting cobra, which can spray poison up to six feet, is one of them. Even while experiences like Yeshi’s are uncommon, they serve as a reminder that nature might be unexpected.
