A shocking incident in Ohio has led to a one-year jail sentence for a woman who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of animal cruelty. The disturbing incident occurred in August when 27-year-old Allexis Ferrell was caught on bodycam footage eating a cat she had killed.
The judge presiding over the case expressed his disgust and disappointment, saying that Ferrell’s actions were “repulsive” and that she was “quite a danger” to the community. “This is repulsive to me. I mean, that anyone would do this to an animal. And an animal’s like a child. I don’t know if you understand that or not. I can’t express the disappointment, shock, and disgust that this crime has brought to me,” Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione said.
The judge further called her a national embarrassment, saying, “You’ve embarrassed this county. You’ve embarrassed this nation. More importantly, you’ve embarrassed yourself.”
This stomach-turning case went viral over a month after Ferrell did the horrific act. During the presidential campaign in September, Donald Trump and his supporters claimed that Haitian migrants were eating pets in Springfield, and Ferrell’s case went viral on social media. However, officials confirmed that Ferrell was not an immigrant.
Bodycam footage from police officers showed the disgusting and terrifying visuals of the heinous act. The police arrived at the scene after getting a 911 call and discovered her on all fours, eating the cat. They couldn’t believe what they were witnessing and one of the cops asked, “What did you do?” “Why did you kill the cat?” According to the reports, the 27-year-old “smashed the cat’s head with her foot and then began to eat the cat.”
Ferrell’s attorney said that the shocking video highlighted her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction based on an evaluation of her history and that she would undergo treatment after her release from prison. The prosecutor, however, described the case as “one of the most disturbing” she had ever seen. This one-year sentence will be added to a separate 18-month sentence she is facing for two earlier crimes that include theft and child endangerment.
