A Reddit user shared his emotional struggles about living in the United States, saying he often feels alone and is thinking about moving back to India. He titled his note “Living in the US is lonely”, where he talked about feeling isolated, having few friends, and problems in his relationship.
“I get lonely sometimes,” he wrote. “I moved here when I was really young with my family. My girlfriend is really the only person I speak to these days, and things aren’t great between us. I really think I should just move back to India. It seems so much nicer there. I’d probably have an easier time making friends at least,” he added in his post.

A person commented, “Loneliness is something most of us experience in the US.”
Another added, “The grass is greener on the other side. At the end of the day, you need to decide how you want to direct your life.”
Some people gave suggestions to help.
An individual wrote, “Find a hobby or two and you can meet people that way.”
“Hobbies are the only way to cope and get over it; it is the same in Indian metros if you don’t have family there,” someone else said.
Others tried to stay positive. A user said, “Cheer up – it’s an introvert’s paradise.”
Another encouraged him to be patient: “Give it a couple of years. See how you feel and if you are in the same boat. The best thing would be to join some kind of sports activity or group, and you will start making friends that way.”
In a similar case, a man shared a post on Reddit in April, asking fellow non-resident Indians (NRIs) how to deal with the emptiness he felt after relocating from India to the United States.
The 32-year-old explained that even though he was earning “a good amount of money,” living in the U.S. had created a “big void” in his life. He asked, “How to cope with the loss of identity after shifting abroad?”
His post struck a chord with many NRIs, who offered support and shared tips on how to make the most of life in America.
