“Nowadays, you are fighting on Twitter?” The statement that soon turned into a global stage humour, and of course, a worthy social media talk. Giving a light and soft start to a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi quipped about the recent Twitter face-off between him and US President Donald Trump.

PM Modi was meeting Macron on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, on Tuesday where he casually remarked, “Nowadays, you are fighting on Twitter?” while shaking hands with the French President. The two leaders also shared a hug as they met, reflecting close ties between India and France.

Following the quip, Macron and PM Modi both burst into loud laughter. However, the moment soon became the talk of the town with various social media users sharing the clip of the conversation online.

Story Behind PM Modi’s Quip

Recently, a digital spat broke out between Macron and Donald Trump over Israel-Iran diplomacy. As Trump left the G7 early, Macron attempted to frame the departure as strategic.

“There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange,” Macron told reporters, hinting that the US could help mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Trump was soon in replying back.  is ‘pCalling Macron “publicity seeking”, Trump said, “He always gets it wrong. “He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington Much bigger than that. Stay tuned!,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Many online believe that this was what PM Modi was referring to while talking to Emmanuel Macron.

PM Modi And Macron At G7 Summit In Canada

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada.

Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “It’s always a delight to interact with my friend, President Emmanuel Macron and exchange perspectives on a wide range of issues. India and France will keep working closely for the betterment of our planet.”

The meeting with Macron was one among several high-level bilateral engagements undertaken by PM Modi at the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, where he met with leaders from Mexico, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, France and Canada, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships.
