The central and state governments are continuously bringing new schemes to increase the income of farmers. The Haryana government is also taking many steps in this direction. Especially emphasis is being laid on promoting subsidiary activities related to agriculture, so that farmers can earn income through farming as well as other means. One of these activities is beekeeping. Now the Haryana government has made a big announcement for beekeys. Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has announced that honey will also be included in the ‘Bhavantar Bhapai Yojana’ (BBY).

What is Bhavantar compensation scheme?

Bhavantar Bhapai Yojana is an important scheme of the Haryana Government. Its purpose is to protect the farmers from the loss that they do not get the fair price of the crop in the market. Under this scheme, the government sets a protected price for any crop. If the price of the crop in the market is less than this fixed price, then the government compensates for the farmers. Now the inclusion of honey in this scheme will give a big relief to the bee parents.

Beekeepers benefit to subsidy

The Haryana Horticulture Department is already running several schemes to encourage beekeeping. The government is giving subsidy up to 85% to farmers to start beekeeping. Farmers can avail the grant up to 50 boxes at a time.

Not only this, 75% grant is also given to farmers on the goods used in bee kit like bucket, comb, net and packing bottles etc. This facility not only helps farmers in producing honey but also makes additional income to them.

Yield will increase

The advantage of beekeeping is not limited to honey just. Bees also play a big role in pollination. When bees collect juices and pollen from flowers, they pollinate in crops, which increases crop yield. That is, beekeeping is a double benefit business for farmers – honey on one side and better yield on the other side.

Box distribution

In order to further strengthen beekeeping in Haryana, Integrated Beekeeping Development Center, Ramnagar (Kurukshetra) is providing high quality box grants to farmers across the state. These boxes are also called “silent papika” in the local language.

How many frames will be the frame?

The boxes used for honey production are made in a special way. A box consists of 9 frames. Thousands of bees sit on these frames and prepare honey. Bees usually give honey from October to April. During this time, the box is kept near flowering crops like mustard, sesame, maize and guava, so that they can get enough juices and pollen.

Election of place for beekeeping

The choice of the right place is very important to start beekeeping. An area should be selected where there are sufficient quantity of flowering trees and plants in the radius of 2 to 3 kilometers.
