Now calling ‘Bihari’, ‘Jat’, ‘Chinki-Pinky’ will be accused of ragging, strict guidelines of UGC implemented

The college and university campus of India will now be more cautious about shameful events like ragging. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued strict instructions to all higher educational institutions that in cases of ragging, now not only physical or mental harassment, but any comment made on language, field, caste, color, religion, gender, birth place or economic background will also be considered ragging. That is, now it will also be a legal offense to call someone with narrow identity like ‘Bihari’, ‘Jat’, ‘Chinki-Panki’.

Institute on alert mode before new session

Admission process of new session has started in universities across the country. Keeping this in mind, the UGC has asked all institutions whether it is IIT, IIM, NIT, Medical, Law, Engineering or Management College to strictly follow the Anti-Ragging Regulation 2009 and the new revised guidelines.

Strictness will be seen in campus

Now every institute will have to form an anti-coaging committee on its campus. This committee will do surprise inspection of places like canteen, hostels, toilets, bus stands. Apart from this, now CCTV cameras will have to be installed in the dark place i.e. such corners where there is not usually no monitoring. Dialogue and counseling will be done regularly with students, so that the danger can be imposed at the beginning of ragging.

Awareness campaign will be done through video

Earlier, students were made aware only through posters and workshops, now UGC will convey the message of anti-ragging to parents, students and teachers through small videos. The purpose of this step is to strengthen students at emotional and mental level as well.

Changes in online application also

Now it will have to be given information about anti-coagling in college admission form and it will be mandatory to take an affidavit not to ragging from students and their parents. This will be a legal document in which the student will promise in writing that he will not be involved in any kind of ragging.

Information on website for transparency

On the website of every institute, information about the names, mobile numbers, landline, email etc. of the members of the Anti-Ragging Committee will have to be made public. If any kind of complaint comes, immediate action will be taken.
