Norovirus can be a common cause of gastroenteritis. It is also called winter vomiting bug. After getting affected by it, problems like diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach ache occur. Fever and headache may also occur. Usually its symptoms become visible after 12 to 48 hours. It also gets cured in one to three days. Because of this there is a risk of dehydration. Usually this virus spreads orally. It can spread through contaminated food or water or through person-to-person contact. The treatment of this disease is based on its symptoms.

How dangerous is bird flu?

The threat of bird flu i.e. avian influenza is being seen in the US these days. The case of the first death of a human being due to this virus has also come to light. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), from January 2003 to February 2024, out of 887 cases of H5N1 (bird flu), there were 462 deaths. Meaning, 52% of people die due to bird flu, which is more deadly than Covid 19, because the death rate due to corona was less than 0.1% or initially up to 20%. Its symptoms include problems like fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, nervousness, sore throat, muscle pain, difficulty in breathing.

How to protect yourself from these viruses

1. To avoid norovirus, bird flu or Covid, wash your hands regularly with soap.

2. Avoid going to areas affected by these viruses.

3. Maintain distance from the infected patient and clean hands thoroughly after meeting.

4. Clean surfaces that have come in contact with people infected with norovirus.

5. Wash clothes that have come in contact with vomit or feces thoroughly with hot water and detergent.

6. Clean door handles, light switches, countertops, children’s toys and smartphones thoroughly with sanitizer.

7. Keep your hands away from the face.

8. Cover your mouth with a tissue or handkerchief while coughing or sneezing.

9. If you go to crowded areas, wear an N95 or medical-grade mask.

10. If there is a virus vaccine then definitely get it. Eat things that increase immunity.

11. Stay home if you are sick.

12. There is no medicine for norovirus. In such a situation, drink as much water as possible. Keep the body hydrated.
