A private hospital located in Greater Noida is in the midst of a serious controversy after it was alleged that a seven-year-old boy underwent surgery on the wrong eye, with the family charged Rs 45,000 for the procedure. A follow-up examination at another medical centre reportedly revealed that no surgery had been performed on either of the child’s eyes, raising questions about possible medical malpractice in the hospital. Nitin Bhati, a resident of Bisrakh, noticed that his son’s left eye had been watering persistently for more than a week. He then sought medical help at a nearby private hospital.
The hospital staff reportedly suggested that there might be a foreign object, likely plastic, in the boy’s eye and recommended surgery. Believing this to be the best course of action, Bhati consented to it. According to The Indian Express, the procedure was scheduled for November 11.
At around 9:30 am on that day, the surgery was performed and the family was informed that the operation had been successful. Within just two minutes, the boy was brought back to his father, who was shown an image of what the doctors claimed was the plastic object that had been removed from the eye. The hospital assured them that everything had gone according to plan.
Upon returning home, they noticed that the bandage had been placed on the boy’s right eye, not the left one, which had been the source of concern. This left the family both confused and anxious and they decided to seek a second opinion at another medical facility. To their shock, the follow-up examination found no signs of any surgery having taken place on either of the boy’s eyes, the report added.
The family’s suspicions were now confirmed and they immediately filed a complaint with the police. The matter was then forwarded to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for investigation. However, the CMO reportedly said that his office had not yet received formal communication regarding the case, which further fueled the family’s frustration.
The situation took an even more alarming turn when Nitin Bhati confronted the doctor involved in the case on November 12. According to Bhati, the doctor not only attempted to destroy the prescription but also physically assaulted him during the confrontation.
In response to what they see as gross negligence and malpractice, the Bhati family is now demanding a full refund for the procedure and seeking justice for the traumatic experience they’ve endured, the report added.
