Breathless. That’s exactly what we feel after listening to Shankar Mahadevan’s title track from the 1980 album. Breathless, a speedy song that goes on without a break, was written by ace lyricist Javed Akhtar. Even after all these years, the audience still finds itself hitting replay on the chartbuster. Recently, Shankar Mahadevan sang the iconic number at the Waves Summit 2025, sending fans at the venue into a frenzy. But, when the crowd asked for an encore, guess what he did? Gave a playful reaction before obliging to the request.
A video of the delightful moment was posted by a Waves attendee on X. The clip shows Shankar Mahadevan and his son Shivam lighting up the stage by singing Breathless at 2x speed.
Recounting the event, the user wrote, “Saw Shankar Mahadevan and his son, Shivam, singing ‘Breathless’ together – at 2x speed. After the song ended, many in the audience chanted ‘once more’. Shankar sir said, ‘Tum logon ko aur koi gaana nahi mila once more bolne ke liye’? (Didn’t you guys find any other song to ask for ‘once more’?)” and then, he sang it again at the same speed.”

The reactions to the post stole the show.
An obvious comment was “He is so talented.”
“I just fear for their health when putting so much strain,” wrote a concerned fan.
Heaping praise on the father-son duo, a user wrote, “Hats off.”
“He’s so precious. So so precious,” gushed one person.
An individual admitted to playing the song “on 2.5x on top of it.”
Taking a sly dig at singer Sonu Nigam, someone else pointed out, “At least he didn’t link the ‘once more’ to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Thank you, Shankar ji!”
The comment was targeted at a recent incident where Sonu Nigam made an objectionable statement at a music event in a Bengaluru-based university. When a student requested the singer to sing a Kannada song, he replied, “Kannada, Kannada, Kannada, this is exactly why the incident happened in Pahalgam.” His words referred to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed.
