In a corporate landscape often criticised for its high-pressure environments and relentless pursuit of targets, one Hyderabad-based robotics startup is redefining the rules of workplace wellness, with a wagging tail and a warm smile.
Harvesting Robotics, a fast-growing tech firm in Hyderabad, has appointed a rather unconventional executive to its leadership team – a Golden Retriever who now serves as the company’s Chief Happiness Officer (CHO). Yes, you read that right. While most boardrooms discuss quarterly figures and KPIs, the goldie, named ‘Denver’, is busy spreading joy and easing stress with nothing more than a gentle presence and a few friendly licks.
The company’s co-founder, Rahul Arepka, shared the heartwarming update on LinkedIn, along with a picture of Denver proudly donning his new title badge. “He doesn’t code. He doesn’t care. He just shows up, steals hearts, and keeps the energy up. Also, we’re officially pet-friendly now. Best decision,” Arepka wrote.
Almost immediately, social media erupted in praise, with thousands of likes, shares, and comments lauding the startup’s fresh take on corporate culture. The sight of a Golden Retriever attending team meetings and making the office rounds melted hearts across the internet.
But Denver isn’t just a fluffy mascot. He’s an integral part of the daily workflow at Harvesting Robotics. Employees say that the very sight of him helps melt away stress. Whether it’s joining a brainstorming session or simply lounging in a quiet corner, Denver has quietly assumed the role of a four-legged therapist. His calm nature and affectionate demeanour have transformed the work environment into a more relaxed and collaborative space.
“BTW (by the way): He’s got the best perks in the company,” Arepka further wrote.
This unusual appointment comes at a time when conversations around mental health and employee burnout are taking centre stage in the tech industry. While companies like Google and Amazon have long embraced pet-friendly offices abroad, Indian firms are only beginning to explore the potential of such environments.
In cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, a growing number of startups and creative agencies are now testing the waters with pet-friendly policies, from designated pet zones to therapy animal sessions. Experts suggest that animals in the workplace can contribute to reduced stress levels, lower blood pressure, and improved employee morale.
Research supports this shift. Studies have shown that the presence of pets at work can enhance job satisfaction, reduce absenteeism, and even improve teamwork. More importantly, it helps foster a workplace culture that values emotional intelligence as much as innovation.
