New Visa Policy in Saudi Arabia : The government of Saudi Arabia has tightened the visa rules for foreign workers in the country. In this, verification of educational and professional qualifications has been made mandatory especially for Indians going to work in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government had proposed this new visa rule six months ago, which is going to come into effect from Tuesday (January 14). This can have a direct impact on Indians working in Saudi Arabia. After the implementation of this rule, the number of Indian workers in Saudi may decrease, because there are very few training centers to ensure quality control.
According to the report of The New Indian Express, Indians are the second largest expatriate community in Saudi Arabia after Bangladeshi citizens. Last year in 2024, more than 24 lakh Indians were living in Saudi Arabia. Of these, 16.4 lakh are engaged in private sector and 7.85 lakh are engaged in domestic work. At the same time, the number of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Saudi Arabia is 26.9 lakh. Indian workers play an important role in the labor market of Saudi Arabia and send remittances to India.
Saudi Arabia is changing its policies
It is noteworthy that the government of Saudi Arabia is working on its dream project ‘Vision 2030’ under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. In such a situation, the Saudi government is focusing on providing more employment to its citizens. In view of this, changes are being made in the Saudi labor sector, which include strict certification requirements for jobs. Under the new rules, all applicants will have to get their educational qualifications verified.
This initiative is expected to increase the quality of the workforce
Company owners and HR departments in Saudi are being asked to verify the certificates and information of expatriate employees. This initiative is expected to streamline the recruitment process in Saudi Arabia and increase the quality of the workforce. In a circular issued by the Saudi Mission in India, it was said that from Tuesday (January 14), professional verification will become mandatory for labor visa.
