India-New Zealand Free Trade: Negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) have started officially again after almost a decade between India and New Zealand. Its purpose is to increase trade and economic relations between the two countries.

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, New Zealand’s Business and Investment Minister Tod McClay said, “We want to have a free trade agreement that is balanced and fair for Indian businesses and citizens as well as New Zealand people.” He emphasized on high-quality and balanced deal, which benefits both countries and citizens. McClay also said that the governments of the two countries are committed to strengthening economic relations in different sectors.

New Zealand wants to increase access to many sectors

New Zealand wants to increase its reach in the primary sector as well as many other sectors in India markets. McClay said that instead of exporting logs only, companies of our country want to process it in India, which will create more price and investment opportunities. Its goal is to increase trade and investment two -sided.

Let us know that New Zealand puts tariffs at the rate of 2.3 percent on India’s products, while India puts New Zealand products about 18 percent tariffs. The two countries have a turnover of $ 1.54 billion. While textile, medicine, tractor, auto products are exported from India to New Zealand, scrap metal, apple, kiwi, minerals are exported from New Zealand to India. After the free trade agreement, the two countries will not impose import duty on each other’s products.
