Shardiya Navratri 2025: Sharadiya Navratri is the biggest religious festival of the year. Various forms of Maa Durga are worshiped for nine days. On the third day, Goddess is worshiped as Chandraghanta. This form is considered a symbol of peace, valor and beauty.
Mother Chandraghanta’s forehead is adorned with crescent and hour in hand. By worshiping them, the seeker gets courage, victory and married happiness. But this year a special situation has been created that according to the almanac, Tritiya Tithi is falling for two days. In such a situation, there is a question in the minds of people on which day should the puja be performed?
Almanac, why does the date fall for two days?
The date in the Hindu calendar is determined by the Elongation of the Moon and the Sun. Each date is about 23 hours 37 minutes, but it does not always last from sunrise to sunrise.
Many times the date starts at midnight of one day and its end after the next day afternoon. In this situation, the same date becomes effective at sunrise of two different days. In the common language, people say that two days of one date fall.
Classical Rules: On which day worship is valid?
The scriptures have clear instructions to remove this confusion. It is mentioned in Dharmasindhu (Navratri Pujan Vidhi) and Nirinasindhu that The date on which the sun rises is the main thing to be taken. That is, the date which is sunrise is mainly accepted.
This means that if the sunrise of a date is two consecutive days, then the date will be considered valid on both days.
Why Tritiya two days?
According to the almanacs, Tritiya Tithi will have started from morning on 24 September 2025. This date will remain the next day i.e. till the morning of 25 September. As a result, the sunrise will be on Tritiya Tithi on both 24 and 25 days. This is the reason that worship of Maa Chandraghanta is being considered scriptural for two days.
Classical Examples: Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritiya festival is the most famous example of this. Many times the date of Akshaya Tritiya lasts for two days. According to the texts, when the sunrise is in Tritiya on both days, it is valid to celebrate both days.
But the first day is considered more strong. This rule is also applied to the Tritiya of Navratri.
Maa Chandraghanta Pujan Vidhi (applied both days)
After bathing in the morning, purify the temple or worship place of the house. Establish the Kalash and light a lamp in front of the statue or picture of Maa Durga. Offer smell, akshat, flower, incense, lamp and naivedya.
Chant the special mantra of Maa Chandraghanta: ॐ Devi Chandraghantayai Namah. Offer milk items, especially kheer in enjoyment. Finally recite Durga Chalisa and Aarti.
What should devotees do?
Jyotishacharya Dr. Anish Vyas, Director of Pal Balaji Astrology, Jaipur, 24 September 2025: This will be the third day of Navratri and the main worship day of mother Chandraghanta. 25 September 2025: Pooja is also valid on this day due to sunrise in Tritiya. Devotees can do it as additional worship or recurrence worship. The first day is more important in the classical point of view, but worshiping on the second day is not forbidden.
What will be the fruit?
The seekers who worship on September 24 will get courage, valor and prosperity by the grace of mother Chandraghanta. Those who worship on 25 September, will get the benefit of additional virtue and mental peace. According to the scriptures, when the coincidence of a date is formed for two days, it is considered best to worship both days.
worshiped on the third day, Chandraghanta Ranapriya. The carrier of the lion’s carriage gives good fortune That is, the mother Chandraghanta worshiped on Tritiya Tithi is Ranapriya, Singhwahini and Shaktirupa. She provides good luck, victory and immense courage to the seeker.
Navratri is becoming a wonderful coincidence of worship of Maa Chandraghanta in 2025. Tritiya Tithi is falling on both 24 and 25 September. According to the scriptures, when the sunrise of a date is for two consecutive days, the worship of that date is valid on both days.
Therefore, this time devotees can worship Maa Chandraghanta on both 24 and 25 days. However, according to the scriptures, the first day (24 September) will be considered primarily superior.
