The cost of living in Mumbai is comparatively higher than in other metro cities, and housing rent is one of the major reasons behind it. Recently, a tech professional, Ohshin Bhatia, was looking for a flatmate for her two-room rental, located in Parel. She dropped the advertisement on X (formerly Twitter) with a few pictures of the apartment. Bhatia shared that an unfurnished master bedroom was vacant in her 2 BHK flat, which she had rented for Rs 1 lakh per month. Her female flatmate would need to pay Rs 52,000 for a single room. The price stunned many social media users, who expressed their concerns in the comment box.

“Hey guys, I’m looking for a female flatmate (to join me in a 2 BHK) in Parel. It’s an unfurnished master bedroom and the rent is 52k, comes with a gym, jogging track and good amenities. The view is breathtaking, as it’s a higher floor. preferably aged 20-25,” Ohshin Bhatia wrote on X.

Her post featured a photo of the master bedroom, which also had an attached balcony. The kitchen looked quite spacious, and the view from the apartment might have impressed many as well. Some users, however, took it as a sign of how the price of rental apartments in Mumbai has been rising day by day.

“52K is even more than what one would normally pay for a fortnight’s rent overseas,” shared an individual. Another sarcastically asked, “Just out of curiosity, 52k for the flat or 52k per person rent?” One user claimed, “We get the same type and view for 25k in Hyderabad..I see the difference.”

“52K is too much for rent, yaar. The highest I’ve ever paid was 14k for a 2 bhk… this is too expensive. Take a bow…Big salute to people like you,” quipped a person. “I love that Mumbai keeps reminding me how far I am still from making it in life,” added another.

A man revealed, “You can get this type of flat in Lucknow for 10-12 k, and in remote areas it’s even less. And in remote new construction, they provide all such facilities– gym, spa and everything under 20k (2 BHK). Mumbai prices are insane.”

Bhata might not have received many positive responses, but her post garnered more than 2,50,000 views on X.
