Shubman Gill ended his Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series campaign against England with 754 runs in 10 innings, the second most number of runs scored by an Indian in a Test series.
Though Gill had a shot at going past Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 774 runs, the Indian skipper was dismissed for 11 in the second innings of the fifth and final Test at the Oval in London on Saturday. Gill fell 21 runs short of Gavaskar’s tally.
Gavaskar had tallied 774 runs in eight innings at an average of 154.80 during a Test series in West Indies in 1970-71. His stupendous form saw him rack up four hundreds and three fifties in eight innings during that tour.
Meanwhile, Gill finished with an average of 75.40 and struck four centuries in 10 innings in his debut series as captain.
