India Education: The Government of India has started two special visa categories for foreign students ‘e-Student Visa’ and ‘e-Student-X Visa’. These visas are for those students who want to pursue higher education in educational institutions of India. This step has been taken with the aim of facilitating foreign students through ‘Study in India’ (SII) portal.
‘e-Student Visa’ is mainly for students registered on the SII portal while ‘e-Student-X Visa’ is for their dependents. SII portal makes the admission process in India easier for foreign students. After registration on this portal, students can track their application status, college, course information and visa process. Every student is given a unique SII ID on the SII portal which is necessary for all further processes.

- The student will have to apply by visiting the visa apply portal https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/.
- The authenticity of the application will be verified through the registration ID from SII portal.
- In the application process, details like name, country, date of birth, mobile number and email will have to be entered.
- Visa can be applied for only after the student has received an admission offer from the institutes listed on the SII portal.
- ‘E-Student Visa’ will be given to students who take admission in full time courses in India, such as undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and other recognized programs.
- This visa will be valid for a maximum of five years and it can also be extended while staying in India.
- Visa holders can enter the country from any immigration checkpoint in India.
- SII program is a major initiative of the Government of India which includes more than 600 institutes and more than 8,000 courses. Students can study in different fields like engineering, management, agriculture, arts, language studies, and yoga.
- This initiative gives students the opportunity to study in top colleges of India and gives them the option to select the course of their choice.
