The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh has announced to establish modern libraries at the district, sub-division and panchayat levels in the state. In the first phase, about 500 libraries have been planned at a cost of crores of rupees. He has also announced performance based grants for high ranking institutions. The state government is planning to increase the financial and administrative powers of college principals and promote decentralization in the education department.
State Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that modern libraries equipped with advanced facilities will be established at the district, sub-division and panchayat levels in the state. In the first phase, 493 libraries have been planned at an estimated cost of Rs 88 crore. While presiding over the Principals’ Conference organized by the Higher Education Department, he announced performance based grants for high ranking institutions. Releasing the grading of libraries in government degree and Sanskrit colleges, he reiterated the state government’s commitment to systemic change in all government sectors.

The CM said the state government is also taking innovative steps to modernize medical education and promote latest medical technologies and Rs 500 crore has been allocated for this sector this year. Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that during the two-year tenure of the present state government, about 15,000 posts of teachers have been created and they are being filled in a phased manner.
