Waiter job before becoming an actor
Akshay Kumar was born on 9 September 1967 in Amritsar, Punjab. His real name is Rajiv Hariom Bhatia. His father was in the Indian Army, due to which Akshay got the learning of discipline from childhood. His family stayed in Delhi for a few years and then came to Mumbai.
Here he studied at Don Bosco School and took admission in Khalsa College, but the mind was less in studies and more in martial arts. From eighth grade, he started taking training in Taekwondo and later learned to go to Bangkok and learned May Thai. While staying there, he also worked as a chef and waiter in the hotel.

After returning from Bangkok, Akshay started taking a class of martial arts in Mumbai. It was here that one of his students, who was also a photographer, advised him to try his hand in modeling. To get a portfolio built, he worked for free with a photographer for about 15 months. He slowly started getting small modeling projects and Akshay felt that he could also try his hand in acting.
Akshay got a small role in Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Aaj’ in 1987, in which he became a martial arts instructor. This role was just 17 seconds, but he did not give up. He continued to audition. He also auditioned for the 1992 film ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’, but he did not get that role. Later that film was done by Aamir Khan and was a super hit. Luck had thought something else for Akshay.
Luck overturned when flight missed
There was also a turn in Akshay’s life that overturned his fate when he missed the flight one morning and on the same day he got his first big film ‘Didar’. One day he was called for a fashion show in Bangalore. Akshay felt the flight in the evening while she was in the morning. As a result, he missed the flight and got out of the show. The same day Akshay reached Natraj Studio, where he met Pramod Chakraborty’s makeup man Narendra. Narendra sought a picture from Akshay and showed Pramod Chakraborty.
