Mark Zuckerberg’s minimalist style has evolved, but his past wardrobe choices are still making headlines. Recently, a black hoodie, which he once wore, was auctioned by Julien’s Auctions for an impressive $15,875 (approximately Rs 13 Lakh). It originally had an estimated value of just $1,000 to $2,000 (approximately Rs 87,000 to Rs 1 Lakh) and attracted 22 bidders.
Made in Vietnam by the brand Alternative, the hoodie features a unique design with Facebook’s 2010 mission on the inside, which states ‘Making the world open and connected.’ The hoodie also includes three arrows in a circle, with words like ‘graph, platform and stream,’ with the year 2010.
The bidder also took home the handwritten note by Zuckerberg, which reads, “One of my favorite old-school Facebook hoodies. I wore this all the time in the early days. It even has our original mission statement on the inside lining. Enjoy. Mark Zuckerberg.”
As per the auction website, “This hoodie was worn by Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg on numerous occasions during 2010, the same year that saw the release of the award-winning biographical drama The Social Network as well as the same year that Zuckerberg appeared on the cover of Time Magazine as Person of The Year.
“The provenance of the hoodie is well-documented, with multiple articles published about how the consignor won it on Facebook Marketplace after it was posted there by Zuckerberg to commemorate the social media platform’s 20th anniversary.”
Matt Thompson, a fan of Mark Zuckerberg, had won the hoodie during Facebook’s 20th anniversary celebration. He told Business Insider that he had seen Zuckerberg putting the hoodie on Facebook Marketplace as part of the anniversary event. People were able to place bids without paying anything, so he decided to participate. He didn’t think much about it, but months later, someone from the Meta’s team contacted him with the news that he actually won. When he received the package and saw it on his doorstep, he was in disbelief.
Zuckerberg’s hoodie wasn’t the only item that was sold at the auction. Last year, he also donated a gold plated chain to a charity auction hosted by his sister. The chain attracted a lot of interest and the highest bid reached $40,500 (approximately Rs 35 Lakh).
