A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly allegedly killed his wife in a planned manner after secretly marrying another woman. He initially tried to pass off the incident as a robbery during which his wife was killed, but police uncovered the truth within just 15 hours.
According to a report by Amar Ujala, the man, identified as Omsaran Maurya, is a resident of Barauli village in the Wazirganj police station area of Badaun. He was returning home with his wife, Amravati, late on Wednesday night when the incident took place. He reportedly called his wife’s brother and a friend after the murder and told them that a group of robbers had attacked them.
Secret Second Marriage Then Murder
Omsaran, who works as a wedding decoration contractor, was reportedly in a relationship with Mannat, a beauty parlour owner in Bareilly. As per the report, while working at events, the two grew close, and they got married in secret.
His first wife, Amravati, was described by him as “old-fashioned and religious.” He reportedly told the police that Mannat had asked him to choose between the two women. Investigators said this demand allegedly led to the murder plot.
Robbery Story
Omsaran initially claimed that six to seven unknown people had stopped their bikes and tried to loot them, Amar Ujala reported. He alleged that when they resisted, the attackers killed Amravati and fled.
At around 12:30 AM, he called his wife’s brother, Bhagwan Das, and a friend, Anil Yadav, for help. After the incident, Anil informed the police, who reached the spot and found Amravati’s body lying on the road. Omsaran had injuries and torn clothes, which he claimed were from a scuffle with the robbers.
How Police Found The Truth
Omsaran himself filed a complaint and claimed that a group of miscreants had attacked them during a robbery attempt and killed his wife. But police grew suspicious. According to the Amar Ujala report, a forensic team was sent to the spot, and during the investigation, jewellery and cash were recovered just 50 metres away from the scene.
Police also traced Omsaran’s movements using his call detail records. Just minutes before the murder, he had made a call to Mannat. He had reportedly used an iron weapon, which he had brought from his brother-in-law’s house, to carry out the attack. Omsaran eventually confessed to killing his wife when presented with the evidence.
Allegations Against The Second Woman
While Mannat was not physically present at the scene, Omsaran reportedly told the police that she had instigated him to commit the murder. SP South Anshika Verma said their close relationship and the lengthy conversations between the two were confirmed through call detail records. She added that Mannat’s exact role in the incident will be determined during the trial.
Omsaran has been arrested and will be presented in court. The police also rewarded the joint investigation team with Rs 25,000 for swiftly solving the case.
