Sanju Rathod, a young artist from Maharashtra, is making waves in the Indian music scene with his viral Marathi pop hits like Gulabi Sadi and Shaky. But behind the fame is a story of struggle, heartbreak, and sheer determination.
According to The Better India, Sanju grew up in Dhanwad, a small village with only about 50 houses, no internet, and no music teachers. As a mechanical engineering student, he was shy and introverted, so quiet that he avoided speaking on stage, let alone singing.
But everything changed when he went through his first heartbreak. He began writing lyrics as a way to cope, and slowly, music became his outlet for expression.
Encouraged by the positive response he got at local events, Sanju made a bold decision in 2017—he dropped out of college and moved to Mumbai to chase his dream.
With no money, no connections, and no backup plan, he shared small rented spaces with friends and struggled to make ends meet. All he had was a second-hand laptop and a pair of earphones, as per reports. But that didn’t stop him.
He kept writing, composing, rapping, and performing wherever he could. His big break came when a producer noticed his work and reached out. From there, Sanju released tracks like Chamiya, Style Martay, and finally Gulabi Sadi, which became a massive hit.
Today, his songs have millions of plays, and his fanbase extends far beyond the Marathi-speaking crowd. Sanju’s ultimate goal is to share Marathi stories with the world and prove that regional music can go global.
Sanju Rathod’s Shaky Ignites Marathi Pop Revolution
Sanju Rathod’s latest single, Shaky, has taken Marathi pop to new heights, breaking records across multiple platforms. Released on April 22, this year, and featuring actress Isha Malviya, the song blends traditional Marathi folk with Afrobeat rhythms—a fusion rarely seen before.
Within just two months, Shaky reportedly surpassed 150 million views on YouTube and climbed to the top of various music charts. It hit #1 on Billboard India, topped YouTube’s Global Top Music Videos, and reportedly stayed four weeks at number one on Gaana’s Indie Top 10 chart in early July.
Fans and critics say Shaky is a big moment for Marathi music, showing that it can shine globally, as per The Hans India. The song’s success highlights Sanju Rathod’s creativity and growing impact in regional music.
