Ice Skater Maxim Naumov, who lost both his parents in the devastating American Airlines disaster, honored their memory at a charity event in Washington, DC. His parents, Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova, were among the 67 victims of the January 29 tragedy, when their passenger plane collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

To honour their memory, 23-year-old Maxim Naumov delivered a phenomenal skating performance to his parents’ favourite song, The City That Doesn’t Exist, at a charity event. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Maxim was visibly emotional after his performance. The video also reveals that he chose this song because his parents would “jump up and slow dance together” whenever they heard it.

Shared on March 3, the video has garnered over 4 lakh views so far. Moved by the performance, social media users flooded the comments section with admiration, with many admitting it left them in tears.

An individual wrote, “My heart aches for this young man. Imagine losing both your parents in such a horrific, senseless accident. He probably is also experiencing survivor’s guilt because he flew home before them. His performance was so beautiful and such a tribute to them.”

He added, “I’m so glad the crowd cheered for as long as they did, trying to support him and lift him up with their love. God bless him. He has a long hard road ahead of him.”

Another commented, “Anyone who has lost a parent knows it can be hard to even get out of bed a month after. His will is incredible. I hope he finds peace.”

“Now I am crying,” a user on X said.

“Such an unimaginable thing to go through. I feel awful for him,” someone remarked.

Who Were Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova?

Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova were former world-champion ice skaters and renowned coaches, originally from Russia. The married duo claimed victory in pairs figure skating at the 1994 World Championship.

Their son, Maxim Naumov, was supposed to travel back with them on the ill-fated flight. However, he took a plane home two days earlier, narrowly avoiding the disaster.
