A man booked an AC ticket on the South Bihar Express for a little over Rs 2,000, expecting a comfortable journey. However, upon boarding the train, which runs between Ara and Durg, Prashant Kumar discovered multiple rats travelling alongside him. He immediately reported the issue to the railways helpline at 139, seeking assistance.
Shortly after, railways staff onboard responded by spraying HIT insecticide – meant for cockroaches – inside the coach. Kumar stated that instead of resolving the problem, he was left dealing with both the rats and the lingering effects of the cockroach spray.
Kumar also shared videos on social media showing rats scurrying across the seats. Alongside, he wrote, “Paid over 2,000 for AC tier 2 seat. Got rats and sleepless night.”
In another post on Twitter (now X), he asked, “Is this why I paid so much for AC 2 class?”
Kumar added, “PNR 6649339230, Train 13288, multiple rats in coach A1, rats are climbing over the seats and luggage.”
Indian Railways has yet to respond to the social media post. Their statement will be added once they do.
Social media reactions
After the man shared videos on social media, netizens wasted no time in flooding the comments section with witty and sarcastic reactions, perfectly capturing the irony of Kumar’s ordeal.
One Reddit user wrote, “Enjoy, railways now provide pets too.”
“Your ticket might be RAC, check it. Both of you will have to share the seat,” commented yet another.
This Internet user shared their own theory: “Now I understand why pets are not allowed in 2AC and 3AC.”
Some even cleverly incorporated song lyrics into their comments:
“Aaj Ki ‘Rat’ Maza Husn Ka Aakhon Se Lijiye,” said an internet user.
Another joined, “Rat’ein lambiya lambiya re.”
“Sari ‘Rat’ aahein Bharta op…,” said yet another.
