Relocating for work prospects is nothing new. Each city has a lot to offer, from local flavours to culture. Recently, a person who shifted to Bengaluru nine months ago compared its lifestyle to other big cities in India. The user’s observations on factors such as pedestrian safety, traffic, language and salary standards in Bengaluru sparked a discussion online.
In a social media post, the individual shared his thoughts on living in Bengaluru, outlining its merits and shortcomings. The user compared the city to other metropolitan hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The post mentioned, “Below are my opinions (and observation) as compared to other cities I’ve lived in (Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad.)” He began by saying that Bengaluru is the most walkable major city in the country and noted that it offers the highest salaries for the Electronics and Automotive industries in India. He also praised the various quick commerce options available in the city and said it offers the ‘Best coffee in the country’. As opposed to language controversies, he said that most languages can be overheard during bus/metro journeys.
Talking about the downsides, he said the city sees the second most expensive rents (after Mumbai), worst traffic jam frequency, slowest quick commerce delivery speeds and most amount of defamatory news/videos on social media.
The post elicited numerous responses, with some users differing with the insights and others finding them right.
One user wrote, “I think your observations are valid but some of them are slightly skewed.”
A person questioned, “You heard less Kannada than Marathi in Mumbai or Telugu in Hyderabad, really??” Another individual stated, “Don’t agree with the second one. You don’t know Hyderabad and Delhi well enough if you are saying this.” A user also mentioned, “With only 9 months you don’t qualify to give an opinion. Kindly wait for 3 months more.”
While weather and pedestrian safety come as advantages, transportation and language barriers often pose difficulties for residents in Bangalore. With different opinions, the debate on the Best Indian city to live still lingers on.
