A young man was stopped from entering the passport office because he was wearing shorts and slippers, Vineeth K, an investor-entrepreneur, has claimed. Confused by the rule, the youngster pointed out that if he could wear similar clothes in corporate offices, why wasn’t it allowed in a government building?
After a short discussion, his father convinced the officer they had come from afar and the young man was allowed in. Later, the security guard told Vineeth that some people didn’t show respect for the offices or their staff.
He felt such clothing might make women and the elderly uncomfortable. Calling today’s younger generation “spoilt,” the guard mentioned that even “their parents don’t say a word.”
On X, Vineeth said, “A young adult came to the passport office in his shorts today. Security told, ‘Shorts are not allowed, this is passport office.’ He said, ‘We go to our corporate offices this way. Why don’t you at allow a govt office?’ Finally, after a 2-minute discussion, his dad went inside and requested passport officer to give an exception, saying his son came from very far. They allowed. After that, the security person told to me, ‘Some people don’t give value to our work and our offices. Who comes to the office in nightwear? There are women, elders inside. What if they feel uncomfortable? Entire generation is getting spoilt and their parents don’t say a word’.”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “It is their office not ours. End of the day we are customers who are paying a fee and getting their services! If they want a certain dress code for the visitors, they should mention it on their page.”
Another wondered, “Why would some and oldies feel uncomfortable. What kind of logic is that? I understand every place has a decorum which one should follow but giving that excuse is completely lame.”
“I see a lot of people defending the guy in shorts. I used to wonder why we are so bad at following traffic rules on the roads. Now I know why, we don’t want follow rules, we don’t want to respect other. I see a different woke culture movement happening,” a comment read.
An individual shared, “Well I also felt uncomfortable when I visited the MTNL office due to those uncle aunties who made the office their home, women were literally knitting sweaters, munching peanuts on the entire floor and I had to search for my own file because the boss man was doing lunch. We are the ones who travel to the PSK in the summer, shorts are fine, they sit their asses in the office all day and have a problem with the dress code of the applicants.”
Another mentioned, “Simple thing – if you’re going out of your house. Be presentable. Your appearance will make you judge you. Be it a grocery run, some errands or a simple walk outside. Always wear a good outfit. Offices – be it any. Have a decorum to maintain. Obey that.”
One more added, “I agree with the guard here. I go to drop my kid to school. We don’t even enter the school. Just at the outer gate. But they don’t allow us to come in shorts. That’s early morning and one is usually in night wear. Highly inconvenient to change. But everyone does that.”
