In an unusual incident that highlights the enduring use of cash amidst the rise of digital payments, a man was left astonished after discovering a foreign coin among his change. While many people now prefer UPI transactions, cash continues to hold its ground for everyday purchases.
Recently, a social media user shared his experience on the Reddit group r/indiasocial. The user, @QuickOriginal, recounted how he bought a Coca-Cola can from a shop using cash. The shopkeeper returned two coins as change, which the man initially did not scrutinise.
However, upon reaching home and inspecting the coins, he was shocked to find that one of them was a 1 Euro coin, not an Indian 5 rupee coin. The value of 1 Euro is Rs 97. It remains unclear which authority the user will send the 1 Euro coin to. Perhaps, instead of returning it, he might choose to keep it as a souvenir.
This unexpected discovery led to widespread reactions on social media. The post garnered around 10,000 upvotes and numerous comments. Some users speculated about the shopkeeper’s source of the Euro, while others joked about potential investigations by the ED. One commenter shared a similar story where their mother mistakenly gave 1 Euro to a priest after a puja.
