A young woman, who journeyed to Prayagraj to partake in the sacred bathing ritual at the Maha Kumbh Mela, was left distraught by the scene that greeted her at the Sangam’s banks.
Filled with hope and faith, she was disheartened to witness the pollution and disregard for the sanctity of the place. Overwhelmed with sorrow, she recorded a video of herself crying and shared it on social media.
The woman shared that the holy river banks were littered with discarded clothes, plastic waste, decaying flowers and garlands. Shockingly, the video showed multiple spots where people may have defecated in the open, further desecrating the holy site.
The woman’s video quickly gained traction on social media, sparking outrage and prompting calls for action. In her video, she implored the government to take strict measures against those responsible for polluting the sacred site.
Netizens echoed her sentiments, expressing their disappointment at the behaviour of some individuals, despite the government’s efforts to maintain cleanliness and order. Many demanded severe consequences for those who continue to disregard the sanctity of the religious gathering.
