The world is decked up for Christmas. Amid all the preparations for the joyful celebrations, a bizarre incident unfolded in the US state of Colorado. A statue of baby Jesus which was stolen from the nativity scene was anonymously dropped at a nearby fire station. The person who came to return the item also left an apology note. After the crime was committed, the Fort Collins Police Department shared a post on Facebook.
It featured a blurry photo of a young guy who had the statue in his hand. The picture was captured by the security camera. “This Grinch tried to ruin Christmas by stealing the Baby Jesus from the Old Town Square nativity scene. If you recognize this suspect, please notify Officer Brittingham,” read the caption of the post.
After the case was closed, the department dropped an Instagram post to reveal the news. The Baby Jesus statue was found at the Poudre Fire Authority Station in Fort Collins. In a picture, two firemen were captured holding the sculpture in their hands.
An apology note was taped to the face of the statue. It read, “I am really sorry. I made a dumb mistake at the moment. It won’t happen again.” It still remains unclear who was the person behind the theft. The businesses that own the nativity have reportedly not filed any formal complaint against the culprit.
Many users reacted to the Instagram post and shared their thoughts in the comment section. Some of them couldn’t believe the thief returned the statue at a “fire station”. One user quipped, “This should be national news.” About the hand-written note, a person said, “It looks like a non-dominant college kid apology to me.”
Another user commented, “I was so invested in this story from start to finish that I’d forgotten that I don’t even live in Colorado. Still super happy that the town got its baby Jesus back.” This reminds me of Chris Isaak’s song ‘Help Me Baby Jesus’,” an individual humorously said. “Holy baby savers,” cheered a person. Another admitted, “I see no crime here.”
