Airport baggage fees, particularly for excess or overweight luggage, can be costly and significantly affect your pockets. To deal with this, many people seek unique ideas to avoid paying for the heavy cost. But what this 20-year-old woman did to bypass the baggage fee will surely leave you amused. Grace Hale, from Dallas, Texas, recently pulled off the stunt on a Ryanair flight from England to Scotland by pretending to be pregnant. Yes! You read that right. She tucked her belongings under her clothing to look like a pregnancy bump.
Talking to What’s The Jam, the 20-year-old recounted how she planned the scam to avoid paying Ryanair’s high luggage costs. “It was very funny. I looked up what pregnancy bumps looked like at different months and how far along I would be,” she explained. After brief research, she then chose a 26-week pregnancy, as the airlines require a doctor’s certificate for women who are 28 weeks pregnant or more.
Speaking about the airline’s costly baggage fee, she told What’s The Jam, “It’s ridiculously expensive if you want to take a bag on a Ryanair flight. I like to take ten options for a three-day trip.”
Carrying extra luggage, the woman came up with this out-of-the-box idea and stuffed her makeup bag and jackets under her top just before boarding the flight. She explained, “We were running late, and the flight was leaving early. I was running and packing on the train to the airport when I noticed the coats and makeup bag would not fit. I planned to pretend like I was pregnant. What would they say?”
Well, not just this, to make things appear real she even practised walking like a pregnant woman before reaching the airport. She gently wrapped the jackets over the makeup bag to keep anything from falling out and causing embarrassment.
But did she succeed or not? To surprise, her plan actually worked and she successfully boarded the plane and arrived in Edinburgh. Later on, she joked about her unique stunt on social media, claiming that it was a boy and that “we’re naming him Ryan,” a reference to Ryanair.
According to the New York Post, passengers flying via Ryanair can expect to pay between USD 50 (around Rs 4,200) to USD 80 (around Rs 6,800) for their extra luggage or personal goods, such as a water bottle. Have you ever tried performing such stunts?
