A bizarre story of a female entrepreneur falling in love with her already married employee caught the attention of the Chinese social media. According to a report by the South China Morning Post, this businesswoman even gave the married subordinate three million yuan (approximately Rs 3.7 crore) to settle a divorce with his wife and spend the rest of his life with her.
Operating her company in Chongqing, southwestern China, the entrepreneur surnamed Zhu became interested in a man known as He, soon after the subordinate joined the organisation. Both individuals were married at the time, but Zhu made an advance on him before the two began an affair.
Zhu and He decided to divorce their respective spouses and make a fresh start to their lives together. This is when Zhu assisted He with his divorce settlements, transferring three million yuan to his wife, Chen, on the employee’s behalf. As per reports, the huge sum was credited to Chen’s bank account for the upbringing of her child.
Shocking Twist In Businesswoman-Subordinate’s Love Affair
With Zhu leaving her partner and helping the man named He settle his divorce, it appeared the couple had gotten their wish and would live happily. There was a shocking twist in store. As per a report by Huashang Daily, Zhu left her lover after a year, as she realised they were incompatible and she now demanded that the subordinate and his ex-wife must return the money she had given her for their divorce settlement.
Zhu took Chen and He to the court for the same. During the first trial, Zhu also had the court siding with her and calling the funds she gave to the man an “invalid gift”, which violated public order and good customs. The court ordered Chen and He to initiate the refund.
Feeling unjustified, Chen and He appealed against the order at an upper-level court, where the judge determined that Zhu had handed over no substantial evidence to prove she gave three million yuan to the couple. The money was classified as the man’s personal payment to Chen for divorce compensation and childcare.
Chinese Social Media Users Lambast Businesswoman
As the case grabbed widespread attention on Chinese social media, many internet users criticised the businesswoman for ruining a couple’s married life.
“It is absurd to spend three million yuan to facilitate a male subordinate’s divorce,” commented an individual.
Another said, “It is unreasonable for her to disrupt another person’s marriage and then demand the money back after the divorce.”
Someone else humorously observed: “One must secure a handsome husband; who knows, maybe one day he’ll catch the attention of a wealthy woman, and you could become rich overnight.”
In their order, the appellate court called out Zhu for lacking integrity in seeking the return of the funds even after the man divorced his ex-wife. The judge overturned the initial verdict and confirmed that Chen is not obligated to provide any refunds.
