The military parade coincided with Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The parade had drawn massive criticism because of its high cost.

The US witnessed the largest military parade in decades on President Donald Trump’s birthday. The president praised the army as the “greatest, fiercest, and bravest fighting force” at the conclusion of a grand display of military might in the nation’s capital. The parade also marked the 250th anniversary of the army.
Several videos of the parade have caught eyeballs online, all for bad reasons. Spectators pointed out that it lacked discipline and enthusiasm.
Economist and author Anders Aslund said the event was a “wonderful embarrassment for Trump”. He also mentioned that he was watching the parade on BBC and France 24 when the French commentators pointed out that the American soldiers don’t know how to march.
“Enjoying watching Trump’s military parade on BBC and France 24 because it is a wonderful embarrassment for Trump. As the French commentators point out, the American soldiers don’t know how to march & don’t seem enthusiastic about doing so for Trump,” he said.
After having watched many anti-Trump protests all around the US, DC appears stunningly empty (needless to say I stay at home not to be confused with a Trump supporter).Trump disciplined himself as a change & did not abuse anybody, but then he shows he has nothing else to say. /2— Anders Åslund (@anders_aslund) June 15, 2025
ANI editor Smita Prakash compared the march with a march by the prisoners of war and said that the military looked “listless”.
“This is how POWs march—listless,” she said on X.
Many netizens on X claimed that it appeared that the parade was done with “no heart”.
“IS THIS A PROTEST? Look at the way these US soldiers march at Trump’s parade in the video to the left. No zest. No heart. When a soldier believes in what he’s doing, it shows,” wrote one user on X.

“I think people are mad as hell,” Lindsay Ross, a 28-year-old musician, told AFP in New York.
The parade, which was only added to the Army’s birthday plans a few weeks ago, has drawn criticism over its high cost-up to USD 45 million-and worries that heavy tanks might damage city roads.
