Dr Avinish Reddy, founder of Elevated Medical and a former associate of Dr Peter Attia, reveals how he protects his brain for the long haul.
Dr Avinish Reddy said longevity is not about perfection.
A New York-based longevity doctor believes the key to a longer life is maintaining not just physical health but also brain function. He said cognitive health is central to both his personal and professional practice.
Dr Avinish Reddy, the founder of Elevated Medical, has studied longevity since 2022 and worked alongside expert Dr Peter Attia. He now leads a bespoke medical practice, which supports his patients in all aspects of their health, including brain wellness.
In a conversation with CNBC, Dr Reddy explained his weekly exercise routine. He said he worked on strength training three days a week and three on cardiovascular activity.
He explained that of the three, two days of cardio are low-intensity but one is high-intensity interval training. He further pointed out that racket sports improve hand-eye coordination and lower the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and dementia.
The Indian-origin doctor said social fitness was equally important to longevity. He added having strong relationships was linked to longer and happier lives. Speaking about his habits, he said he prioritised remaining connected with his family and friends.
Dr Reddy also recommended omega-3 supplements and B vitamins like B12, B9, and B6 to support brain health. For food, he said he focuses on vegetables.
He said that protein was easier to get but the public neglected the vegetables. He makes it a point to eat salads for lunch and add extra veggies for dinner.
The doctor added he used a continuous glucose monitor once a year to understand his body’s responses better. He said he used it for a couple of weeks to track blood sugar spikes and identify problematic foods.
Reddy cares about health but points out that living a long life doesn’t mean one has to be perfect. He said that aiming for perfection makes people miss out on many experiences. He thinks it’s all about finding a good mix between staying healthy and enjoying life.
Even though he is a busy dad to a two-year-old, Dr Reddy plans to pick up a new language or learn to play an instrument. Studies show that these kinds of activities can really help keep your mind sharp by pushing it in new directions.
